Most families in Australia who have a bit of space seem to manage to fit a prickly pear cactus somewhere. Every time I used to drive past homes in Sydney and spot a prickly pear plant, I was sure it was a Maltese family. Prickly pear cactus were not Australia’s friend for quite some time, trying to take over the country, but thankfully the cactoblastus moth sorted that out in the early 90’s.
Although we have eaten a few already, I have decided to use my prickly pears in a recipe. Not sure exactly what yet though. Mum (Nunna to my girls) leaves next Wednesday to go back to Australia, so perhaps some kind of treat would be good. We will see…
